St Patty’s Day Green Dinner

shamrock

Here is a great tradition from Sandra Jensen,  Giddy Grandma’s Board Member. “We always have a green dinner for St. Patrick’s Day. Our menu varies each year. This year we are having BBQ chicken (not green), green beans, green grapes, green gelatin cut into shamrocks, green homemade rolls, and green key lime sugar cookies. The leprechaun leaves chocolate gold coins for the grandchildren to find.” What a fun way to celebrate! If you have traditions that you kept this year or new ones that you started, please leave a comment…

Teaching Kids Compassion

warmfuzziejar

As grandmothers, we have many opportunities to enhance good behavior.  Sometimes we spend our energy “wishing” our kids would teach our grandchildren certain manners and behaviors.  Sometimes we don’t realize that we have the ability to encourage good habits but we may have to be a little creative.  I believe one of the greatest gifts we can give young children is the ability to feel and express compassion to others.  That is why I absolutely LOVE this book!  You can read it with your grandchildren or if they live a…

We Love to Be A Family Day

FAMILYDAY-300x225

This is such a great idea and keeping it simple is her secret. I tend to make it “fancy” AND try to  make it memorable and sometimes I am so burnt out the next day.  Putting thought, effort and time are great and even sometimes the roses on the pancakes ALSO show you are going the extra mile.  “Balance” is what I keep telling myself.  What is your opinion of her article?  Click HERE to read a great post from PowerofMoms.com. Here is a cute, easy gift to give your grandchildren for Valentine’s Day. It is called Cake in a Cup. Even small grandchildren will enjoy making their own cake. Preparation: Mix 1 box of dry cake mix (any flavor) with 1 box of dry angel food cake mix. Stir until it is mixed well. Put 3 tablespoons of mix into each snack size baggie and seal. Place a few baggies full of mix in a cute mug and add instructions. Makes approximately 30 bags. Add other gifts or candy and…

Organization & Time Saving Tips

Meal Planning Calendar

Meal Planning It is such a stress to come home from work and wonder, “What are we going to have for dinner?” When I ask my husband what he wants for dinner, he says things like, “I don’t care, whatever, or anything.” Those responses aren’t any help at all. I get tired of eating the same things all of the time because they are quick, easy, and usually not very healthy. If you face this problem, get a small calendar white board. Once a month we plan our meals. I…

In the beginning, it may feel that there is never a place adequate for the care of your loved one.  It’s not only a hard decision to move them to assisted living but also knowing which one to choose.  It is typically very hard for them to make the move.  Therefore, making the right choice is critical.  Here are 10 tips for choosing an assisted living.  In future blog posts I will walk you through my journey with my mom (whom the Giddy Grandma is dedicated to). 1- Ask as…

BUDGETING FOR ADULTS AND KIDS

1yearsavingchallenge30days

Who doesn’t need to learn to budget their money better?  When polling grandparents about one of their top concerns about their grown children and grandchildren, it was how they manage their money. Sharing this post with them from our Facebook Page will give you an opportunity to give them some helpful ideas and tips without being too pushy. I began using this system last year.  It was a slightly different template.  Last year Week #1 began with putting aside $1.00 and then continuing to double that each week.  It seemed…
